New Moon

AKA Luna, our little puppy comes home!
I posted photos of Luna earlier when the breeder sent pics of her at about 7 days old. Here she is at about 8 weeks old. The breeder we worked with is Laura from North Mountain Retrievers in Middleton, ID (near Boise). All her dogs look great and have won lots of awards (master hunter, field trials, etc). Luna's dad is Worf (North Mountain Klingon Honor, MH) and her mom is Kira (can't remember her official name!). It was Kira's first litter an Worf's upteenth. It was fun getting our pup from fellow Star Trek fans.

We left the house in northern Idaho around 6am and arrived at Laura's place around 1pm. It was a snow, long drive. We picked up Luna and headed back north. Another long snowy drive. Luna only fussed for the first 10 minutes or so of the drive. I think the movement outside the window as we drove was bothering her. After a bit she settled down and sat in our laps peacefully the whole way. Well, we did have to get her a bone to chew on instead of our hands.

Upon arrival at home her level of energy increased. She ran around and jumped, chewed, barked, and sniffed everything. The cats were flummoxed but just stared at her like she was an alien. She loves her stuffed squeaky goose.

We played for awhile until we were exhausted -- as well as Luna.

She has learned a lot already since she's been with us. She understands the commands "go potty", "come" and is starting to get "sit". We just need to work on "No" and "off". Her little puppy teeth are sharp!

The breeder, Laura, has already gotten her used to birds and gunshots so we are continuing that training activity. We play fetch with some duck wings we got this past hunting season and Russ takes her out in the morning for some rabbit hunting.

We are so very blessed to have her in our lives. Even with all the work we have to do now and all the things we have to learn to do a good job raising her I wouldn't trade it for anything. I must remember that she will be a little puppy for only a brief time and I need to enjoy it as much as possible. When she is a grown dog she'll be just as wonderful but won't have that puppy smell or the tiny cuteness factor going for her.

Don't you just want to kiss her!

  1. Cute, cute, CUUUUUUUTE! :)

Yes...kissing her and 'snorgling'...but also having her kiss me with puppy breath! As long as those sharp little puppy teeth don't think my nose is the next chew toy! ;)

She's adorable...and I'm sure she's already grown so much just since these...be sure to keep posting updates! :)
